LADY Gaga appeared to take a subtle dig at President Donald Trump as she opened her electrifying Super Bowl performance.
Standing on the stadium roof she sang God Bless America and This Land Is Your Land – a protest song which has become the anthem of the Anti-Trump movement.

The superstar used the simple song to share a passionate message of unity and peace in the wake of a turbulent fortnight since Trump took office.
“God bless America, land that I love,” she sang.
“Stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light from behind.
“This land is your land. This land is my land. This land was made for you and me.”
She then quoted the Pledge of Allegiance — “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” — before jumping off the roof at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
Although she did not mention Trump by name, many social media users suggested her poignant message was aimed at the new President.
Has Lady #Gaga finally moved to the final stage of grieving — acceptance? No Trump diss? No hijab? No “wall” the dancers broke through.
Hillary Clinton also praised the singer, tweeting: “I’m one of 100 million #SuperBowl fans that just went #Gaga for the Lady, & her message to all of us.”
This Land is Your Land, a folk song by Woody Guthrie, has been covered by a number of protest singers, including Bob Dylan.
The original lyrics of the song – which Gaga didn’t sing at the Super Bowl – make a reference to a “high wall”.
“There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me. The sign was painted, said ‘Private Property’,” the original lyrics read.
It was not the first time Lady Gaga has performed the powerful song.
She also sang the Woodie Guthrie version at the Democratic National Convention in July 2016.
The star began her incredible half-time show perched on the stadium roof, showing off her stunning figure in a short silver jewelled leotard and fishnet tights.

Adding a dramatic mask, Gaga then jumped on to the pitch and wowed the crowd in Houston, Texas, with a 12-minute medley of her songs including Poker Face and Born This Way.
Vice President Mike Pence, who is known for his anti-gay stance, was watching the show at the stadium.
Dozens took to social media to joke about what the Republican may have thought of Gaga’s hit, Born This Way.
The song includes the lyrics: “No matter gay, straight or bi/Lesbian, transgendered life/I’m on the right track baby/I was born to survive.”
One Twitter user wrote: “Mike Pence just had to sit through an entire Lady Gaga performance, so I think the real winner today is America.”
Despite two costume changes Lady Gaga avoided any wardrobe mishaps, and has been widely praised for the show-stopping performance.
While many fans expected the star to use the platform to make a political statement, the singer focused more on her music for the show.
“The only statements that I’ll be making during the half-time show are the ones that I’ve been consistently making throughout my career,” she previously said.
Mid-way through the medley of hits, Lady G sat down at a piano and performed Million Reasons.
“America, how you doing tonight? We’re here to make you feel good. Do you want to feel good?” she asked the crowd.
And proving she’ll never forget where she came from, the star also gave a shout out to her beloved mum and dad at home.
She closed out the show with an explosive rendition of Bad Romance.
Completing the show with a huge mic drop, fireworks went off behind her in an incredible finale.

At a press conference on Thursday the New Yorker vowed to put on a show the sporting crowds will “never forget.”
She revealed her favourite half-time memory was watching the King of Pop rock the Rose Bowl in California in 1993 and gushed: “Watching Michael Jackson do the halftime show is one of the fondest memories that I have.
“He encapsulates everything that you love about a great performer.
“You watch him go on stage and you can see he’s getting his head into the zone and he’s having a true defining moment. It’s what it must feel like to be a champion.”
Fans and fellow stars have praised the stunner for the show, as Katy Perry tweeted: “I want jumping gifs stat! Bravo @LadyGaga.”
Chrissy Teigen added: “YES Gaga!!”
While Ellen DeGeneres wrote: “That was so incredible @LadyGaga.”
Fergie added her voice to the flood of praise, writing: “YES @LadyGaga just DID THAT!!”
And even Ivanka Trump wrote: “Incredible performance by @ladygaga.”
Well that’s how you make an entrance.
She promised athleticism and energy, and Lady Gaga certainly delivered, jumping down from the roof after singing ‘God Bless America’ on top of the NRG Stadium.
Nobody was quite sure what to expect, but everyone inside the stadium was treated to a surprisingly orthodox performance by Gaga’s standards.
There were no meat dresses or political statements, just some of her top hits, and some well rehearsed choreography with the many back-up dancers – all about the music. It was refreshing to see, and a privilege to witness in person.
One of the best half-time performances in recent years. I say one of, I’m a Beyonce fan, so it’s hard to beat her lights out performance in New Orleans a few years ago.
According to E! News, Lady Gaga was spotted crying with happiness following her amazing performance last night.
“She was so happy with her performance,” a source told the site.”It was everything and more than what she expected.”
“She is so emotional now and so pleased,” the source added. “She thanked everyone involved with this production. She is so kind and thankful to everyone working with her.”
